Are you interested in learning more about the inner workings of history museums--either as an introduction or a deeper dive into an aspect of the museum field?The Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History (NMAH) offers internships to qualified applicants who are excited to engage in a professional learning experience! Students with majors in education, art education, museum studies, hospitality, business administration, or arts administration are encouraged to apply. At the same time, the American Visionary Art Museum (AVAM) is a place of smiles and laughter. Internships provide training in specific museum fields through close work with a professional staff member, familiarity with modern and contemporary art through seminars and discussions, and an educational program that exposes interns to the workings of the Museum as a whole, while considering the role of museums in the broader cultural context. For the summer internship, the Museum offers a $5,000 stipend for full-time participation over nine weeks. The Newark Museum of Art’s collection of Art of the Americas includes both Native North American art, the focus of a permanent gallery, and Latin American art. Join a community of interns to gain professional skills and learn about museum practice. Most objects in these collections date between 200 BC and the mid-16th century AD, with a strong focus in Mesoamerican and Andean art. Almost all of these ancient arts were used in religious or funerary Internships for Undergraduate and Graduate Students.
